Duane Jones lived with his father, Morgan, in the little town of Cynthiana, Kentucky at the beginning of the zombie outbreak. Even though the government suggested the people to head to the bigger cities to be safer, they decided to lay low in one of the abandoned houses. On day, they met a stranger named Rick Grimes roaming through the abandoned neighborhood. Duane confused Rick with a zombie, and hit him with a shovel. Morgan later brought the stranger inside his house for dinner and explained the situation. After introducing each other, Rick returned the favor of the dinner by inviting Morgan to the Police Department. After looting some guns and a car, Morgan and Duane separated from Rick and continued their lives in the abandoned town.[1]
As the months passed, Duane spent most of his time helping his father and reading old comic books. When Christmas came, Morgan gave him a Gameboy he found while looking for supplies.[2]
Unfortunately, Duane didn't survive much longer. Duane got infected and turned into a zombie. Unable to force himself to kill what remained of his son, Morgan chained him and kept feeding him for three months. When Rick found Morgan again in the neighborhood of Cynthiana, Rick told him to let his son rest and gave him a gun to kill it himself. Instead of killing him, Morgan shot the chains and let Duane roam free through the abandoned neighborhood.[3]
