Max Cash is Cole Cash's younger brother. When the original WildC.A.T.s were presumed dead, Savant recruited him for a new version of the team in place of his brother (while Grifter was the only WildC.A.T. confirmed alive, he refused to return to the team). Another team member, Ladytron, felt attracted to Max, but he was turned off by her robotic body and her abrasive personality.
During a night with Ladytron at the superhero bar, Clark's, Max saw "The Albatross", a known criminal, entering the toilets carrying a briefcase. He came out without the briefcase and left. Knowing that no criminal would ever enter Clark's, Max ran into the toilets and was caught in the blast when the briefcase exploded. While in hospital, Max discharged himself and fled, partly to escape Ladytron.
